Acupuncture for Endometriosis

Endometriosis

Endometriosis is diagnosed and managed medically — please see your GP and ask about it by name, because it is commonly missed for years. Gynaecological care, hormonal treatment and pelvic health physiotherapy are the substantive options. Acupuncture is not a treatment for endometriosis and anyone who tells you otherwise is overstating what is known.

What acupuncture is reasonably sought for is period pain, and the evidence there is modest rather than absent. People commonly attend in the week before bleeding and in the first day or two of it, when the pain is worst, and many report the sessions help them get through those days. That is the honest description.

A session in Freshwater runs about an hour. You stay dressed apart from access to the lower abdomen and legs, and most of the needling is on the limbs. Heat is often used over the lower abdomen and low back, which is the part people ask for again. If you are having a bad day, we can run a shorter session with you on your side rather than expecting you to lie flat.

There is a scheduling point worth making. If pain is predictable, appointments should be booked around the cycle rather than at the same time each week, and it is worth telling us your dates so we can hold those slots. We are ten streets from Balgowlah and about twenty from Manly, which matters on the days when getting anywhere is an effort.
