Weekly appointments from around thirty-six or thirty-seven weeks. GPs and midwives on the Northern Beaches refer women at term for these, and if you come with a referral, bring it with your maternity notes so we have your dates and know what is being watched.
How the appointments run. Shorter than usual. You are positioned on your side with pillows — never flat on your back for long, never face down. Light needling, and certain points avoided in pregnancy. Getting up to move or to use the bathroom mid-appointment is expected, not awkward.
Getting here in the last month. The Freshwater rooms are ten streets from Balgowlah and about twenty from Manly, which matters when a car trip has become an ordeal. Ask about ground-floor access and the closest parking when you book and you will get a specific answer rather than "it is fine".
What we say about it, and what we do not. Women commonly report sleeping better and feeling more settled in the last weeks. We will not tell you it brings labour on or shortens it — the trial evidence is limited and inconsistent.
And this is not negotiable. A pregnancy past its dates is monitored by your maternity team because of real risks to the baby. If they recommend induction, that is a medical decision. Nothing that happens in this clinic is a reason to delay it.
Worth sorting before the last fortnight. Who drives. What is genuinely in the bag. The plan if labour starts at three in the morning. And who is feeding you in the week after you get home, which is the one everybody leaves to chance and the one that decides how the first fortnight actually goes.
Ring your maternity service immediately for reduced fetal movements, any bleeding, fluid loss, severe headache, visual disturbance, upper abdominal pain, sudden swelling, or one-sided calf pain. They expect those calls and would far rather have them than not.
