Embryo Transfer Day in Freshwater: How the Two Sessions Run

Two appointments on the day of your embryo transfer: one in the hours before it, one about an hour after. That is the protocol people ask for by name, and it is offered here.

The travel question, first, because on the Northern Beaches it is the thing that decides whether this is workable. Most fertility clinics are in the city or on the north shore, which means the Spit or the Harbour Bridge twice on transfer day. Tell us which clinic you are with and we will be honest about whether the timings work. For some people the answer is that a clinic closer to their fertility unit makes more sense on the day, and we would rather say that than take the booking.

How the sessions run. Short and gentle. You stay dressed apart from access to the lower legs, forearms and abdomen. Light needling, lying down. After the transfer you simply rest. Transfer times are usually confirmed a day or two ahead, so we hold provisional slots and confirm when you know — ring us as soon as the time is set.

What we will not claim. That it improves your chance of pregnancy. The early trials were encouraging and the larger ones did not consistently reproduce the result; the pooled evidence is mixed. What people report is feeling calmer on a day that is otherwise entirely clinical. That is what is on offer.

Your IVF clinic must know you are attending, and any herbal medicine during a cycle needs their written clearance, because some herbs are avoided during stimulation and around transfer.

Durations and timing. A first fertility appointment runs about two hours and covers both partners where that applies. The pre and post-transfer sessions are about forty-five minutes each. Leave more room than that: IVF clinics run late as a rule, so booking the second session from mid-afternoon onward is much less frantic than chasing a slot straight after the procedure.
