Your maternity care is led by a midwife, GP or obstetrician. We work around it, and your maternity carer should know you are attending.
What changes in the room, since this is what people ring to ask. From the second trimester you are positioned on your side with pillows rather than flat on your back, and never face down. Certain points are avoided during pregnancy. Needling is lighter. Sessions are shorter because lying still gets uncomfortable. If you need to get up and move halfway through, that is expected rather than a problem.
What people come for here: first trimester nausea, back and pelvic pain from the second trimester on, and sleep in the third when nothing is comfortable. Pelvic girdle pain is common and is worth naming — it has specific management and a pelvic health physiotherapist is the right referral, which we will make.
No herbal medicine in pregnancy without your maternity carer\u{2019}s clearance, and there are formulas we do not use at all.
Birth preparation and referrals at term. Appointments from around thirty-six or thirty-seven weeks are one of the commonest requests here, and GPs and midwives on the Northern Beaches do refer women at term. Bring the referral and your maternity notes so we have your dates and know what is being monitored.
Women commonly report sleeping better and feeling more settled in the last weeks. We will not tell you it brings labour on or shortens it, because the trial evidence is limited and inconsistent. And a pregnancy past its dates is monitored by your maternity team: if they recommend induction that is a medical decision, and nothing here is a reason to delay or decline it.
Contact your maternity service straight away for reduced movements, bleeding, fluid loss, severe headache, visual changes, upper abdominal pain, sudden swelling, or one-sided calf pain.
The Freshwater rooms are ten streets from Balgowlah and about twenty from Manly, which is short when getting anywhere has become an effort. Ground-floor access and parking: ask when you book and we will tell you exactly what it is rather than saying it is fine.
